How to Convert Claude UI Designs to Figma
Converting an AI-generated UI concept into a Figma project is an important step when a design needs to move beyond a static preview. In Figma, designers can organize screens, adjust spacing, build reusable components, and collaborate on changes.
The conversion process depends on the format of your original design and the tools available to you.
Step 1: Inspect the original UI
Determine whether the output is an image, SVG, HTML/CSS page, or a format supported by a Figma integration. The format affects how much of the interface structure can be preserved.
Step 2: Choose the conversion method
If a compatible plugin supports your source format, use its documented import or conversion process. For HTML-based designs, verify that the tool can access and convert the page correctly. For SVG, import the vector file and review its structure. If you only have a screenshot, you may need to recreate the interface with native Figma elements.
Step 3: Separate the design into components
Once the interface is in Figma, identify repeated elements such as navigation bars, buttons, form fields, cards, and tables. Turn suitable repeated elements into components. Apply shared styles for typography and color to make future changes easier.
Step 4: Check layout behavior
Review spacing, alignment, text wrapping, and the relationship between elements. Use Auto Layout where it makes sense to help components respond to content changes. Do not apply Auto Layout mechanically to every element. Choose layout behavior based on how the interface is expected to work.
Step 5: Validate the result
Compare the converted design with the original reference. Check important details such as icons, image cropping, font sizes, borders, and responsive behavior. Test the screen with realistic content because placeholder text can hide layout problems.
Common conversion problems
Some conversions produce too many nested groups, flatten text into images, or lose the intended hierarchy. Others may preserve appearance but not interactive behavior. Review the result carefully and rebuild problematic sections rather than accepting a poor layer structure.
Final thoughts
Converting Claude UI designs to Figma works best when you understand the source format, choose a suitable conversion method, and plan time for cleanup. The goal is not only to reproduce the appearance but also to create a design that is practical to edit.
